Chapter 199 Are You Still A Kid?

Yvette Wendell carried vigorous energy that Lindsey did not have. The next day, Lindsey woke up later than Yvette. Since they slept late, it was already noon by the time the two of them got up. Yvette stretched and said, "Lindsey, what are we going to eat later? I heard that Broad Street Market is pretty famous in Harrisburg. Why don’t we go take a look?" Lindsey was still in a daze and nodded. "Sure." She did not have anything to do anyway. When Lindsey finished washing up, she suddenly realized that Yvette said she would leave today. "Aren't you going to your relatives' house?" Lindsey looked at Yvette's back. This girl was really a child at heart. It only took one night for her to forget about the trauma last night. Yvette’s back stiffened. After a long time, she turned to look at Lindsey with puppy dog eyes. "I actually ran away from home." "Ran away from home? How old are you that you’re still doing something so childish?!" Lindsey was a little shocked. Yvette did not answer her question and was probably ashamed. After a while, she muttered, "It's all Shaun's fault." Lindsey knew that Yvette liked Shaun, so she went over to the desk where her phone was placed and picked it up. Her phone was running low on battery and she did not charge it. There were a lot of missed calls from Allie and Liam, which was weird. These days, Allie called her frequently, but Lindsey barely answered because the content of the calls was invariably to tell her not to keep the child. Lindsey glanced at the missed calls and ignored them. She then found Shaun's number and called him. "Don't tell my brother about me," Lindsey whispered another admonition to Yvette. The call was answered right after she said that. Shaun sounded very tired. He was a little surprised to receive Lindsey's call, but said, "Linds, U have something going on, so I'll call you back later." He had searched all night, but he could not find Yvette anywhere. "Brother, don’t hang up just yet," Lindsey said quickly so that he would not hang up and handed her phone to Yvette. "You talk to him." Yvette took the phone and reluctantly called out, "Shaun..." Shaun froze when he heard this slightly stiff and cold voice because Yvette’s voice was usually very cheery. After he came back to his senses, Shaun's voice was so cold that it could freeze the room. "Yvette Wendell! Are you still a kid? You’re so old yet you still run away from home? I’d really like to pry your head open to see if there’s a brain inside. How could you do things without thinking through it? Do you know how many people came out to look for you last night?" Shaun roared to vent out all the frustrations he felt in his heart. However, the girl's voice suddenly sounded over the phone, "Why are you so fierce?" Yvette was always like this. Every time Shaun became impatient, she would just blink her teary eyes and said this with an aggrieved tone. However, most of the time, Yvette would only fake cry. She was never like this. Her voice seemed to contain a million grievances. She was just petulant. In an instant, Shaun could no longer show his temper. Lindsey was a little dumbfounded by this. A second ago, Yvette was like a prancy little wildcat, but she now had her head buried in arms, looking quite pitiful. She had also heard Shaun's words. Even the usually composed Shaun exploded like this, which meant that he was really anxious this time. The girl was still sobbing, so Lindsey took over the phone and reprimanded Shaun. "Brother, she was robbed last night and was nearly hurt. She’s just a young girl all alone in Harrisburg, so don't be so harsh on her." Lindsey made Shaun completely speechless with this. He could only retort, "Who asked her to run away?" Even though he said this, he vented out his anger on a car parked next to him as he kicked its tire. Nearly hurt? What if something really happened... Shaun dared not think about it further. Yvette’s emotions came and went quickly. After hanging up the phone, Lindsey first brought her to a restaurant and brought her to the hospital to redress her wounds. The fingerprints on Yvette’s neck were a little obvious and creepy, but Yvette looked like it did not bother her. The hospital was not too far away. The two of them followed the directions on their navigation app and took a casual walk there right after their meal. Suddenly, Yvette dragged Lindsey to the side and turned into an alley. The two of them hid behind an old wooden door. Lindsey did not know what Yvette was doing, but she played along. A few moments later, two people who did not seem out of the ordinary looked at each other, shook their heads, and split up. "They’re hard to ditch." Yvette brushed off the dirt from her hands. Lindsey was scared and asked, "They’re following you?" Yvette pulled Lindsey up and made a mischievous face. "My dear Lindsey, they’re following you!" Lindsey understood after a moment of thought. They were Zayn's people. She suddenly felt a little frightened. If Zayn found out... With her frequent trips to the hospital, anyone would suspect that something was going on. Lindsey looked at the childish Yvette and said in an extremely solemn tone, "Thank you." Yvette was stunned by Lindsey’s serious attitude and laughed as she waved her hands. “It’s nothing. You saved me last night and I didn’t even thank you yet!” When the two of them came out of the hospital, it was already afternoon. Lindsey had booked a flight for Yvette at 6:00 pm. It was not convenient for Lindsey to go with Yvette, so Lindsey bought a new phone for her. Then, she hailed a car for Yvette and gave her a few hundred dollars. "When you arrive, remember to contact your family first, then call me to check-in." Lindsey sent Yvette off to the car. Lindsey still had morning sickness and everything made her nauseous, so sitting in a car was basically the same as torture. That was why Lindsey did not send Yvette off at the airport. Yvette waved nonchalantly and said, "Don't worry." After she said that, several people suddenly appeared behind Lindsey. "Lindsey, why are you here?" It was Allie's voice. Lindsey froze and turned her head. She was surprised and asked, "Allie, why are you here?" "I came over on a business trip." Allie lied point-blank. "I'm about to go back to Atlantic City. Why are you in Harrisburg?" As there were many passersby and Yvette was still there, Lindsey only said, "I just came here for a vacation." Somehow, when Yvette saw Allie, her nose scrunched up and her expression looked grim. She then pushed the car door open and got off. "Why did you get off? This is my friend. You should hurry and catch your flight!" Lindsey pushed Yvette back into the car again. She felt that this wild child was really hard to handle. When Yvette heard the word, "friend", she felt more at ease, but she still thought that Allie was a bit strange. Lindsey urged the driver to send Yvette to the airport and waved goodbye to her.
