Chapter 173 Her Heart’s Deepest Fears

Allie clenched her teeth and swallowed her anger, but her heart was still filled with jealous discontent. "Well, it’s almost time. Let's go." Lindsey did not show any satisfaction or dissatisfaction with her look. She felt that her current look was not very different from her usual one, but it was precisely this lack of self-awareness that made her seem more beautiful. Allie clenched her fists so that she would not reveal a stiff smile. She then hugged Lindsey’s arm in a friendly manner. ‘The best part of the show is yet to come. So what if I let her be smug for now?’ Allie thought. Since Zayn did not want to attend the reception, Quentin also did not report too much about it to him. Thus, after Quentin finished his tasks on hand, he asked, "President, do you need me to attend the cruise tonight?" Zayn’s face froze for a moment and his eyes narrowed slightly as he asked, "What cruise?" Quentin pushed up his glasses and said, "The venue for this year's reception is set on a cruise ship in Westport." After saying that, he realized that Zayn's face was frighteningly gloomy. Quentin shook for a second and corrected his expression. "President, what's the problem?" "Immediately get someone to check whether Lindsey is attending tonight!" Quentin was stunned and suddenly thought of something, then his face turned pale. During this time, Wilford Corporation and Hemera teamed up against Denarius, so even though Zayn looked calm, his subordinates were all busy and overlooked this tiny detail. The first thing that Quentin did was call the people who were following Lindsey. Unless Lindsey was in danger or under some very special circumstances, these people would not take the initiative to report her situation. Technically speaking, they were not just following her but secretly protecting her. The phone call was quickly answered and Quentin straight away asked, "Where’s the Young Madam?" "Young Madam is on her way to Westport. Assistant Quentin, is there something wrong?" Usually, Quentin resented being called Assistant Quentin, but he could not care less about that now. He hung up the phone and when he saw Zayn's face, he felt that he had lived to his end. The Wilford family's driver sent Lindsey and Allie to Westport. The harbor area was cleared and closed to the public as it was the venue for the Guggenheim’s reception. The sea breeze smelled a little fishy and Lindsey could barely stand still as she held Allie's hand next to her. As soon as the two of them approached the center of Westport, they were enthusiastically led to the side. A tall woman led the two ladies forward and said, "This way, please." Lindsey was confused. Was it not an al fresco restaurant? The beautiful woman in a slim gown led the two ladies to a cruise ship that had an escalator. "The banquet is up there. Ladies, please." Lindsey's face turned white at the sight of the cruise ship in front of her. Hearing that she still had to go up, she was even more repelled by the idea. Her hand that was holding Allie’s squeezed tighter that it hurt Allie. "Lindsey, what's wrong? Are you okay?" Allie asked with worry. A few more guests were brought over behind them and saw them standing there unmoving. They swept a few glances suspiciously and when they saw Lindsey, their eyes flashed in amazement, but they quickly withdrew their gaze and went up the ship. Lindsey hugged Allie's arm and she looked dreadful. Even her voice was trembling as she said, "Allie, I want to go back." Allie was in a difficult position. She had longed to come here. "But Lindsey, we haven't even gone in yet." Lindsey could not speak of the fear she had in her heart. Allie could see that she was afraid, but she still pulled Lindsey with a pleading face. "Let's just go up and take a look. We’ll leave soon, okay? Are you afraid of heights? I'll get someone to help you up." Lindsey's eyes flashed with hesitation. It was indeed impolite for her to leave now, but if it was just this reason alone, she would just leave anyway. However, she could not leave Allie here alone and Allie had been so excited about this reception. Thinking about what the psychiatrist said, Lindsey had to face her heart's deepest fears head-on. Lindsey's legs were trembling, but she still took a deep breath and said to Allie, "Okay, let’s go." The escalator was very wide and there were handrails. It did not look too high and Lindsey told herself not to be afraid, but it was still difficult to ignore the panic in her heart. It was only when they got onboard that Lindsey realized the ship was terribly big. Formally dressed guests with their partners weaved in and out of the crowd and the place looked very vibrant. However, Lindsey felt a little wobbly. She held Allie with one hand and held onto the edge of a table with the other, but the dizziness did not fade. Lindsey could barely focus her sight, but she saw a familiar figure walking in her direction. A moment later, Shaun's voice rang in her ears. "Linds, what's wrong?" Shaun helped Lindsey to the other side for a seat. Seeing her like this, he knew what was going and felt another burst of anguish. He sat her down and fed her small sips of fruit juice. Once he saw that she was a little better, he said, "Linds, do you want me to take you home?" At that moment, Zayn rushed on board with Quentin and saw Shaun’s heartfelt look as he supported Lindsey and gave her something to drink. After seeing the paleness and agony on Lindsey's face, for the first time in his life, Zayn did not get angry at Shaun for being so close to Lindsey. Lindsey did not notice Zayn, but Allie spotted him at once. However, she did not bother to tell them. Suddenly, Lindsey felt a quick breeze sweeping by her face, and Shaun was suddenly pushed away from her. The next thing she knew, her body felt weightless as she was picked up by Zayn. "I'll take you home," Zayn said in a deep voice. It was then that Lindsey felt his presence, but all the blood had drained from her already pale face. Her hands that were on his shoulders tried to push him away. "Let go of me!" Lindsey could not even speak normally. Her voice sounded like she was choking on water and was very faint. The more Zayn listened, the more heartbroken he became and held her tighter. Shaun, who was pushed aside by Zayn without a warning, directly grabbed Lindsey's hand and said, "Linds, I’ll send you back." Their hands that were clasped right under Zayn's eyes triggered his violent streak. However, thinking of Lindsey's current state, Zayn resisted the urge to chop off Shaun's hand. Lindsey wanted to escape from Zayn and Shaun’s hand was the driftwood that could save her from drowning. Zayn’s presence only agitated her emotions and nerves. Lindsey struggled to get away from Zayn’s embrace, but the man was holding her too tightly, so she could only cast a pleading gaze towards Shaun.
