Chapter 166 What Do You Mean?
Allie Wilford was in no hurry as she said, "Lindsey was forced to jump into the ocean because of Zayn Guggenheim and Jenny Lenig. You know that right?"
Shaun did not say anything, which implied acquiescence.
Seeing Shaun like this, Allie smiled wider. She slowly recounted how she found Lindsey and how she saved her. Naturally, she was serious and described in detail the parts about Lindsey’s injuries.
"The lead doctor that treated her gave several critical care notices. Back then, she did not even dare to move an inch because she was afraid that wherever she touched would break. Lindsey laid in bed for three months before she finally got on the ground. While the average person needs one to two years to fully recover, she forced herself to walk normally in a few months. I've never seen someone being so brutal to themselves."
Allie said while she observed Shaun’s reaction. Seeing that his face became gloomy because of her words, she sneered in her heart.
"The culprit of all this is Zayn Guggenheim. Lindsey originally came back to seek revenge on him, but recently they’ve been seeing each other more frequently and Zayn even moved across the hallway from Lindsey."
The smile on her face gradually faded and morphed into a very worried expression. "Mr. Juhl, I know that you and Lindsey grew up together and have an extraordinary relationship. Now that Lindsey’s being hoodwinked by Zayn, are you going to sit back and do nothing?"
"Is that the purpose of your visit?" Shaun asked as his brows furrowed.
Allie tucked her hair behind her ear and pretended to be soft. "Of course I'm not asking for nothing...Zayn has repeatedly suppressed our family's business in order to bring Lindsey back under his control. Lindsey’s my friend, so I can't just sit back and do nothing. I also won’t watch my parents' hard work go up in smoke."
She said it with such sincerity. If she said this was simply for Lindsey, Shaun would not believe it. He was a businessman himself and did not believe in such a thing as a free lunch. However, coupled with the reason that Zayn tried to bankrupt the Wilfords, Allie’s credibility increased.
"Now you can tell me the real purpose of you coming here."
Allie smiled and said, "I think we may be able to work together. I can tell that you care about Lindsey. Your feelings for Lindsey isn’t just brotherly love from growing up together. If Zayn really leaves Lindsey, I believe she’ll finally be able to see who is real to her."
She thought these words could convince Shaun, but after hearing her words, Shaun’s face once again turned cold.
"Whether I’m good to Lindsey or whether I like her is my business. I’ve also never asked for anything in return. Please leave, Ms. Wilford. I’ll need time to consider your proposal."
He directly gave her the expulsion order. Surprisingly, Allie was not annoyed and she just left with a faint smile.
Until she walked out of the Hemera office, Allie was thinking about Shaun's words.
‘If you like someone and don't ask for anything in return, then what’s the point of liking them?’
Allie could not understand Shaun’s feelings, but if she liked someone, she wanted an outcome.
She looked back at the Hemera office building. Allie was confident that Shaun would definitely cooperate with her.
After Allie left, Shaun no longer kept the composure he had when he was talking to her. An anguished look flashed in his eyes and Allie's words earlier kept echoing in his mind.
The thought that Lindsey's suffering was all because of Zayn and that she got involved with that man again made his chest hurt like it was being pricked with a million needles.
He could not help but pick up his phone. The conversation with Lindsey stopped last week. He had asked her how she was doing and she said that she was fine. There was nothing else after that.
Shaun tapped on the screen and dialed Lindsey's number.
"Hey, big brother." Lindsey's voice was as usual, but Shaun somehow felt that she sounded more lively.
"Have you found Jenny Lenig yet?" Shaun asked.
Lindsey was fiddling with a pot of boat orchids that Zayn had someone send over earlier. They looked like they were growing very well. When she heard this, she paused and said, “Yeah, I met her.”
Shaun did not say anything else because he was waiting for her to continue.
However, at that time, Lindsey did not know what to say. Jenny Lenig really seemed to be mentally ill. After she fell from the balcony, she might not be able to stand and live like a normal person for the rest of her life.
Since Lindsey did not say anything, Shaun continued, "Linds, do you remember what you said to me when you first came back?"
‘You said you’d never want to love again, so why did you go soft on Zayn?’
Lindsey was silent for a long time before she said, "Shaun, I recently discovered that many things are actually not what I initially thought."
Shaun said, "Like?"
"Like, many things..." She was obviously reluctant to say more and changed the subject with a casual remark. "Oh right, who was that little girl yesterday?"
Since she was unwilling to talk about it, Shaun did not want to probe further. When he heard her mention Yvette Wendell, his frown deepened and he said, "A client. Don’t be fooled by her appearance. She’s actually 21 years old."
Lindsey heard his words, but before she could reply, she suddenly said, "Hey, let’s talk later. I have another call coming in."
It was a call from Milo Cohen.
Since Liam Wilford had returned, this assistant had not contacted her for a long time. Lindsey was a little surprised and picked up the call.
Milo spoke clearly and concisely as he explained the purpose of his call in just a few sentences. Simply speaking, Liam had left the country and Lindsey needed to come back as the acting president.
Lindsey thought about it and agreed. On one hand, she had been managing Wilford Corporation for the past year. On the other hand, the previous person in charge was transferred out by Liam because of her. Putting aside her dislike for Liam’s way of doing things, Lindsey felt that she had some responsibility towards the company.
She also felt that this was her own business, so she did not discuss it with anyone and went to the Wilford office the next day. After the Guggenheim family's servant who usually delivered Lindsey’s meals knocked on the door and no one answered, he called Zayn, who then learned from the person who followed Lindsey that she had gone to work.
Zayn was sitting in his office looking uncomfortable and asked, "Why would she go to Wilford Corporation?"
Quentin was treated with unprecedented gentleness these days and had almost forgotten that Zayn looked like an iceberg when he was cold and sullen.
"Liam Wilford went abroad overnight, so he asked Young Madam to take over. After all, Young Madam is still Wilford’s Interim President."
"When did my wife need to be the Interim President for another company?" Zayn sneered.
Quentin silently screamed in his heart and felt that his good days were coming to an end yet again.
