Chapter 990 Childish Provocation

Ramona was a girl of few words. After greeting me with a smile upon my arrival, she quietly returned to her book. Her complexion was still not good. It was pale and wan, which made her look feeble. I wondered why Sally was taking her out every day instead of letting her rest properly, risking her health. "Yvette, do you also think Ramona is very pretty?" Sonya passed me a cup of water and sat beside me as she whispered. I glanced at her. "Also?" She nodded. "Yes, Ramona has been pretty since she was little. Everyone praises her for it." I was not sure if girls her age were obsessed with appearances. Sonya seemed more striking between the two, but Ramona's quietness and reserved beauty made her stand out even more. Looking at Sonya, I smiled and said, "You both are very pretty." Sonya hurriedly waved her hand. "I'm not as pretty as Ramona. When we came to Tully City a few days ago, an old man with a white beard nearly took Ramona away because she was too pretty. Thankfully, Aunt Sally and I reacted quickly and found her." Her voice was not loud, and Ramona, who was engrossed in her book, seemed not to notice our conversation and did not react. Nonetheless, I could not help but frown, puzzled by Sonya's words. Sonya seemed oblivious to my reaction and continued softly, "Also, when Idris and Mom were discussing the partnership, Idris said that Ramona was the most beautiful girl he’s ever seen." "Sonya!" I called out, my voice now a bit raised. It startled Ramona, who was reading next to us. She quickly looked up at us. "What's wrong, Yvette?" Seeing my upset expression, Sonya looked confused and bewildered, as if my reaction made no sense to her. For a moment, I was at a loss for words in front of this seemingly innocent girl. I took a deep breath and said, "Sonya, I can't find the restroom here. Could you take me?" She pursed her lips, about to speak, when Ramona interjected, "Yvette, I'll take you." "No need. Let Sonya come with me. You keep reading." I spoke, struggling to contain my anger. Ramona was puzzled yet obediently nodded her head. Sonya stood up and followed me out of the guest room. In the hallway, I stopped and turned around to look at her coldly. Seeing me stop, Sonya blinked, looking at me in confusion. "Yvette..." "Sonya," I cut her off. "You just want everyone around you to hate Ramona, don't you?" She was startled, a flash of panic on her face after being exposed. However, she quickly returned to her previous innocent expression, looking at me confusedly. "Yvette, what are you talking about? I don't understand." "Yes, I don't know much about you, but a few encounters were enough. We all know what the intentions behind the unbearable photos of Ramona at the Fullers' adoption banquet that she could not bear to look at were. You know I'm aware of what you've done, so you deliberately used Idris's compliments toward Ramona to provoke my jealousy as a woman. Sonya, don't treat everyone like fools. You're still a child, and your intentions are transparent to others. You’re acting just like a clown. It’s laughable!" She seemed not to care about my direct rebuke and said, "So, Yvette, you got angry because I said Idris praised Ramona. Is that it?" I… I took a deep breath. I felt I was really talking to a wall. This girl was not someone I could give advice to. I silently gave her a look, but I did not say another word and went straight to the restroom. Sally's business was finished quickly. Since we had already made plans to visit Grace Cathedral, we headed straight there after she was done. On the way there in the car, Ramona seemed a bit unwell as her complexion did not look great. Sally looked at her and said, "Ramona, should I have someone take you back to the hotel to rest?" "No need, Mom. I'm fine," Ramona said, managing a smile. "Aunt Sally, it's okay. I'll take good care of Ramona, don't worry," Sonya spoke up, moving closer to Ramona as she spoke.
