Chapter 977 The Feeling of Having an Affair

He looked at me, pursing his lips, neither nodding nor speaking. Seeing him like this, I did not know what to say, so I stood up and left the room. Astoria followed behind me, her face full of worry. "Ms. Scott, if you're not here, what if Mr. Lucas has an episode tonight...?" "He shouldn't for now," I responded, looking at her. "Dr. Wacket left some medicine. Have him take it before he sleeps. I'll try to come over as early as I can tomorrow. Don't be afraid. Wasn't everything fine last night?" She thought for a moment, nodded, and said, "That's true. But it's troublesome for you to keep coming and going. You could stay in my room if you like. Don't worry, I won't disturb you. I can sleep on the sofa downstairs." I smiled wryly upon hearing her. "That's not the point. I must return to the hotel. I came to Tully City for work, and Idris came with me. He knows I'm staying at the hotel. If he finds out I'm not there, I'm afraid he might come here. He can’t find out about Lucas." She bit her lip in hesitation but eventually nodded, looking dejected. "Alright. Be careful on your way back." Seeing her response, I guessed she was scared by Lucas's episode earlier, which was why she wanted me to stay. I hugged her and said, "Don't be scared. He won't hurt you. If you're really worried, you don't have to check on him at night. If anything happens, call me, okay?" She nodded, took a deep breath, and said, "Ms. Scott, you should go back. Don't worry, I'll take good care of everything here. Her earnestness made me laugh. My gaze inadvertently swept over a few bags she had brought back, and I asked, "Those are...?" "They're clothes for Mr. Lucas," she replied. As if remembering something, she quickly handed me the bags. "Ms. Scott, maybe you could bring them up?" I looked at her, smiled helplessly, and nodded slightly. I took the bags along with the calming medicine and went upstairs. Before entering, I thought about what I should say to Lucas. Somehow, I forgot to knock and pushed the door open without warning. Before I could speak, I heard a thud, like something had fallen to the ground. I looked up to see that Lucas's medicine box had fallen from his side. At that moment, he was frantically pulling the blanket over his stump. I had actually seen everything earlier, but seeing him like this, I still forced a smile and pretended not to have noticed anything. I approached him and said, "The doctor has already administered your medicine. These are some clothes for you to change into. I brought them up for you." As I spoke, I took the clothes out of the bags and added, "Astoria bought your size, so they should fit. If not, it's okay. I'll go to the mall again tomorrow and buy you a few more sets..." "Yvette..." A voice came from behind, interrupting me. I turned around to see Lucas looking at me, his gaze cloudy. "You... used to really dislike me, didn't you? Why... are you doing all this for me?" I froze, meeting his confused and faultless gaze. I suddenly felt a tightness in my chest. Then, I tilted my head back, chuckled, and looked at him. "A long time ago, I did dislike you quite a bit, but..." Before I could finish, my phone rang. Looking at the name displayed on the screen, I involuntarily looked up at Lucas, who was waiting for me to speak. For some reason, I felt guilty, and with a dry throat, I said, "Sorry, I need to take this call." After speaking, I walked a few steps toward the balcony before picking up the phone by sliding the answer button. "Hello?" "Yvette, where are you?" The man's voice was deep and restrained, making my heart skip a beat unexpectedly, and I felt even more guilty for no reason. "I'm outside," I replied, my voice clearly lacking confidence. I could almost sense Idris furrowing his brows on the other end of the line, his voice becoming even heavier as he said, "Where are you? I'll come pick you up." I hurriedly refused, "No need. I can get back on my own." While I said this, I felt Lucas's gaze fixed on me the entire time. I felt like I had been caught in an affair, even though there was nothing between us. Still, I inexplicably felt very guilty.
