Chapter 1003 Wishing Well
I found myself a cozy spot to sit down and waved off a sales assistant with a polite nod.
I was killing time on my phone when I noticed Emily was still buried in the jewelry selection. A quick glance outside confirmed it was indeed starting to sprinkle.
I pocketed my phone, caught Emily's eye, and stood up. "I'm gonna step out for a bit."
Emily shot me a curious look. "Something wrong? Didn't find anything you like?"
I just smiled and shook my head. "It's raining out. I'm off to grab a couple of umbrellas."
She frowned slightly and asked, "Why bother with an umbrella? The car's parked right in the garage, isn't it? We can just head down when we're ready. It's such a hassle to buy an umbrella. Look, I've found some great stuff. Let's go out and see if there's anything you'd like."
Turning to the sales assistant, she instructed, "Please have the items I was looking at sent to the Youngs' Old Manor."
The sales assistant nodded eagerly, her smile wide and ingratiating.
I did not have anything special to buy. After Emily had made her selections, I gave a small nod, and we both exited the store.
Emily was in the mood to check out some jewelry. We left the high-end boutique, and she led me straight into a jeweler's. We were quickly ushered into a VIP room. The staff there knew Emily well and promptly presented us with the latest arrivals.
Emily handed me the samples and said, "Take a look. See if anything catches your eye."
I browsed through them without much interest, shook my head, and told her, "You know I don't really care much for this stuff. You pick."
She seemed to find something she really liked and nodded thoughtfully. As she examined the pieces closely, I decided to leave the room.
These jewelry stores had private rooms for their elite clients, where they could view items in peace and away from the bustle of the main store.
It was less tiring than walking around, but it also lacked the fun of a shopping spree. Since jewelry was not my thing, I just strolled around the counters, stretching my legs a bit.
Initially, a couple of sales assistants shadowed me, but they eventually left me alone when they realized I was not in need of assistance.
Peering through the display case, my eyes landed on a radiant emerald bracelet. Its quality was undeniable, and I found myself drawn to it.
Madam Young's birthday was tomorrow, and I had not picked out a gift yet. She had a penchant for collecting fine bracelets, and this one seemed like a serendipitous find.
I glanced up, intending to beckon the sales assistant to retrieve the bracelet that had caught my fancy. She noticed my gaze and quickly came over. She unlocked the case and handed me the bracelet with a flourish.
"You've got an eye for beauty, Miss. This bracelet just arrived, and it's top-notch. It'll look even more stunning against your fair skin. Go on, give it a try..."
Before my fingers could graze the bracelet, a slender and graceful hand swept in and claimed it.
"Is this bracelet high quality? Is it new?" inquired a feminine voice. I turned to see who it was and found myself face-to-face with a familiar visage.
"Ms. Fuller," I greeted, recognizing the Fuller family's eldest daughter.
Caught off guard by my presence, Ms. Fuller hesitated and then offered a polite smile. "Ms. Scott, it's you. I was just admiring the bracelet. It's so lovely that I... My apologies."
The bracelet was already adorning her wrist. I offered a small, diplomatic smile and a dismissive shake of my head. "It's fine, Ms. Fuller. The bracelet looks lovely on you."
Her smile tightened as she turned to someone else, her voice bright with excitement. "Iddy, do you think this bracelet is pretty?"
At the mention of that intimate nickname, I paused. My eyes instinctively followed her gaze until they landed on Idris' deep-set gaze.
Was he there with Ms. Fuller for a shopping spree?
Caught in my own thoughts, Idris' eyes briefly met mine before he looked back at Ms. Fuller, who was playfully waving her wrist at him. He nodded, his voice tender and soft, "It's beautiful."
With Idris' approval, Cambria's smile grew wider, her affection for the bracelet seemingly deepening.
She then turned to me with a hint of embarrassment and asked, "Ms. Scott, do you fancy this bracelet as well?"
I nodded and smiled softly. "The bracelet is gorgeous. If it caught your eye, I wouldn't dream of taking it from you."
She seemed a touch sheepish as she replied, "But you were the one who found it first. It feels a little rude for me to swoop in, right, Iddy?"
Idris had quietly appeared behind us at some point. When she asked the question, her eyes sparkled with such innocence. It was impossible not to feel a tug at the heartstrings.
Watching her, it struck me why Idris was so keen on turning over a new leaf with her.
Idris caught her expression and gave me a brief, composed glance before saying, "If it makes you happy, it's yours."
Her eyes shone with gratitude as she turned to me. "Thank you so much, Ms. Scott."
