As soon as she finished speaking, the car went silent.
Calvert howled internally, "Oh, good lord. Every single word hit a nerve. I've never seen someone step on landmines this densely packed before.
"Vespera, you're not just dancing on Mr. Reid's landmines—you're setting off explosions where there are none!"
Noticing how quiet it had gotten in the backseat and the tension in the air, Vespera cleared her throat and said, "...I was just sharing my thoughts. I might be wrong. Of course, the final call is yours, Mr. Reid."
Still, no response from Dominic.
Calvert sighed inwardly and thought, "Mr. Reid really has a thing for self-inflicted pain, doesn't he?"
The car was dead silent.
Dominic sat with his arms crossed. His refined features resembled a sculpture of a Greek God.
The oppressive silence followed them all the way home.
Vespera had no choice but to ride up in the same elevator as Dominic. She stared at the numbers as they climbed: 4, 5, 6, 7…
