Vespera watched Dominic smile, his tone still polite, yet a creeping numbness spread across her scalp. A deep sense of dread settled in.

His reaction, along with the dark circles under his eyes from lack of sleep, told her everything she needed to know—he had seen the message.
Her smile froze at the corners of her lips, and she couldn't bring herself to meet his gaze.
Looking down, she coughed awkwardly. "I slept well… I just had a bit to drink last night and got pretty tipsy—everything was a bit of a blur."
She let out an awkward laugh.
Dominic's expression turned cold, the trace of amusement fading completely. His gaze sharpened, unreadable, but carrying a weight that made her stomach twist. "Alcohol isn't an excuse."
Vespera swallowed. "It really is! Drinking messes up my vision. My hands were out of control, like… like…"
