Chapter 8

The unexpected slap left Shannon momentarily stunned. Elsie, however, had already rolled up her sleeves. "Who the hell are you, bitch? Trying to look like me? Are you trying to take my place because you've seen how favored I've been lately? "Listen carefully. It's never going to happen. The title of Mrs. Bellwether is mine! I'll make you feel the consequences of trying to seduce Caspian!" It was only then that Shannon realized that this was probably the woman Caspian had been using as a substitute. He must not have told Elsie about Shannon's existence, which was why she thought Shannon was the one fighting for the title of Mrs. Bellwether. Shannon took a deep breath. Just as she was about to explain, Elsie kicked her sharply in the knee. The pain sent Shannon crashing to the floor. She tried to fight back, but Elsie's friends quickly swarmed over, pinning her down so she couldn't move. "I always wondered why Caspian was leaving every night. So, it's for you! You know Caspian loves me, so you're using my face to get his attention, right?" Shannon couldn't help but find her words laughable. But since Elsie was being deceived and unaware of the truth, Shannon swallowed her anger and tried to reason with her. "I suggest you leave now. If Caspian comes back, he won't let you get away with this." Elsie burst into laughter. "He won't let me get away with it? Ha! What a joke! Who do you think you are, threatening me? Do you know how much Caspian loves me? I'm carrying his child! Even if I killed you today, all he'd do is spoil me and clean up the mess. You should be more worried about yourself right now." Shannon's heart skipped a beat as she noticed the look in Elsie's eyes. "What are you going to do?" Elsie grabbed Shannon's hair and examined her from head to toe with a focused gaze. Then, a malicious smile curled on her lips. "Your face is well done, though. I almost couldn't tell the difference. But soon, it won't be yours anymore." With that, she dug her sharp nails into Shannon's cheek, causing Shannon to shout in pain. Shannon felt her skin tear, each painful tug like a heavy weight pressing down on her chest, suffocating her. She struggled desperately, but with several people pinning her down, she could only endure. Elsie's nails slowly tore at her skin, and blood trickled down to the ground. Elsie's friends joined in, kicking and punching Shannon relentlessly. The pain was so intense that it left her limbs numb. Watching her squirm in agony, Elsie smirked with satisfaction. Shannon, unable to bear it any longer, screamed, "You've got it all wrong! I'm not trying to seduce Caspian! I'm his legitimate wife! I am Mrs. Bellwether!" At that, Elsie's friends burst into laughter. Elsie also stopped attacking Shannon. Holding her stomach, she laughed hysterically. "You're his wife? Then who the hell am I?" "Exactly!" "We've never heard of Mr. Bellwether getting married," one of Elsie's friends chimed in. Elsie wiped away the tears from her laughter and looked at Shannon with a mocking gaze. "This is too much. If you want to get into Caspian's bed, just say it. Don't make up these lies, or Caspian will have your skin for this! You're his wife? Ha! Dream on!" Shannon looked at Elsie. She had kept a low profile by nature, so when she married Caspian, only those within their circle knew she was his wife. The outside world barely knew. Now, however, it had become evidence for others to deny her identity. On top of that, Caspian deliberately took so many intimate photos with Elsie to provoke Shannon. It undoubtedly led the public to believe that Elsie was the woman Caspian intended to marry. But Elsie never considered that she was just a woman from an ordinary family. How could someone like Caspian, with his status, possibly choose her out of all people and have her bear his child? Shannon's hands tightened into fists as she struggled to rise. "I'm really Caspian's wife. If you don't believe me, call him right now!" But before she could stand, Elsie stomped on her hand. The heel of her shoe pressed down hard on Shannon's fingers. "You're still pretending? Looks like you haven't learned your lesson. Can someone go bring a sharp knife from the kitchen? I want to see just how long this bitch can keep up this act!"
