Chapter 799 Another Motive
Mr. Osborne was a resourceful man.
He knew that at this time, it was inappropriate to create more complications, so he quickly sent Bryan Taylor away.
Gregory was never stingy with money, so it was all up to Mr. Osborne to decide how much to compensate Bryan. As long as he could stop Bryan from talking and from finding trouble with Vickie, any amount would be worth it.
After Mr. Osborne escorted Bryan downstairs, Gregory carried Vickie to the auxiliary building where Jennie Taylor was placed.
Jennie’s body should have been taken away by the police after the accident.
However, Gregory knew of her relationship with Vickie, and he also knew that she had died because of Vickie.
Therefore, he sent someone to intercept Jennie’s body at that time.
The nature of this matter was already clear without having to look into it.
The authorities knew that they were Jennie Taylor's family, and they also knew Gregory Graham, so they were not afraid that he would run away with the corpse. With that, they did not stop Gregory’s men and just let them take Jennie’s body away.
After her corpse was brought back, Gregory had ordered for her to be placed in the lobby of the auxiliary building.
As he walked over with Vickie in his arms, from afar, he could see a simple makeshift memorial hall set up in the lobby.
Right in the middle of it was a huge coffin, in which Jennie Taylor was lying peacefully in.
Vickie was fiercely shaken.
Gregory put her down and said in a deep voice, "I knew you would want to see her, so I specifically brought her here. This isn’t her home though, so after you’ve said your goodbyes, I'll have Bryan Taylor bring her back."
After a pause, he murmured in a comforting voice, "It’s all water under the bridge now, so don't be too sad."
Vickie did not say a word.
Her lips were pressed tightly together. From the first moment she came in, her eyes were locked on the huge coffin.
Gregory helped her to walk over with quite some difficulty.
The coffin was made of fine cypress wood with a layer of black paint on the outside and it was surrounded by a bed of fresh flowers, all of which were urgently ordered by Mr. Osborne last night.
Step by step, Vickie walked to the side of the coffin.
Both her hands held the edge of the coffin as she peered inside.
With just one glance, tears came rolling down her cheek.
Inside the coffin, Jennie was lying there peacefully, her thin little face pale as paper. She was dressed in a beautiful white suit, which made her look like a beautiful angel.
If it was not for the fact that her pulse had stopped and she was completely lifeless with a somewhat abnormal complexion, she would have looked just like usual at this point.
Jennie was such a young, beautiful, and lively girl who was full of vitality.
Vickie could only feel a huge pain in her chest as if someone had harvested her heart with a knife and left a huge hole in place of it.
With her blood flowing out profusely and the cold wind gushing in, it numbed her whole body.
"Jennie…”
Vickie choked and her tears poured down like rain. She could no longer complete her sentence.
Gregory did not go forward to comfort her either.
Instead, he just stood quietly at one side and watched her with a heavy gaze.
In the entire memorial hall, everyone else had been ordered to leave and only two of them were left in that large space who were still breathing.
Gregory just looked at her in silence. He saw that she was in pain and remorse, and watched as she tried to arouse Jennie over and over again.
"Jennie, I’m here now. Open your eyes and look at me! Didn't you say you wanted to own a clothing brand? Didn’t you want to open a clothing store and become the greatest designer in the world?
"Wake up and look at me! Whatever you want to do, I’ll accompany you. I’ll help you to achieve all your dreams...
"Please! Open your eyes and look at me first..."
Vickie had always thought that she had run out of tears a long time ago.
It was not until then that she realized she had not.
She could still feel pain and agony. She was still the same as she once was, unable to accept and unwilling to face the departure of a person she loved so much.
Only the heavens knew that if she could, she would rather have been the one who died that day.
She did not want someone, who should not have died, to die in place of her.
However, many things in this world were out of one’s control.
Just like the dead, how could they ever come back?
Vickie lowered her head and let her tears flow freely. She trembled gently as she held Jennie’s cold and stiff hand.
After a long time, until her voice was mute and her tears seemed to have dried up, only then did Vickie put Jennie’s hand down gently. She reached out and fixed Jennie’s collar and hair, then put on an ugly smile that looked worse than when she had cried.
She said softly, "Rest now. I know you're tired. Rest if you want. I won't let go of any one of those people who’ve hurt you. Don't worry, I'll make them die a horrible death."
A hint of viciousness could be heard in her last sentence.
Gregory shuddered at this.
In the next second, he saw that Vickie had wiped away her tears and turned around.
At that time, although there were still tear marks on her face, Gregory could clearly see that the softness and pain in her eyes had slowly faded away.
What surfaced instead was cruel and cold vengeance.
"I heard that you've captured those people?"
Gregory looked at her with a sullen face.
"What do you want to do?"
"Take me to them."
"No."
He refused without a second thought.
Vickie sneered.
She strode directly in front of him, craned her neck slightly to look at him, and yelled in a rebellious tone, "They killed my sister! I want to take avenge her!"
Gregory's eyebrows were deep as he looked at the woman's defiant face and saw the hatred in her eyes.
In the end, he still shook his head.
"Now’s not the time."
He paused for a bit before he continued, "Jennie died for you. Their original target was you. Since you were imprisoned four years ago, you no longer have any connections with the Vermilion Bird Organization or even my circle. Don't you want to know why they’re looking for you?"
Vickie trembled.
Gregory clapped his hands.
Harold, who had been standing outside the door, came in with a few documents in his hands. He bowed slightly and handed them to him with both hands.
Gregory took the documents and handed them over to Vickie.
"Take a look at this first."
Vickie received the document from him and when she took a closer look at it, her expression changed slightly.
Gregory explained, "This is the result of last night’s interrogation, plus the results of Harold’s investigation. The information shows that the person who hit you with the car, as well as the people who kidnapped you, are not from the same group.
"In other words, two groups of people are targeting you. We now know that the second group of people are from the Chinese Association.
"But we still don't know why they're after you though. Those guys down there are merely pawns, so the plans and motive from above won't be known to them.
"Also, when the car went off the bridge and fell into the river, the driver had already died of poisoning… "
