Chapter 798 All For The Money

As they expected, Vickie did become the fuse between the Vermilion Bird Organization and the Dragon Regimen which caused the two largest underground organizations to consume each other until they fell apart. Now, she was all alone and was no longer of any use or threat to them at all. Why were they still chasing after her, and even went so far as to send out so many people to take her life? Vickie was puzzled but she was not the only one. Gregory also harbored the same thoughts. It was only at this point that they realized things seemed to be far more complicated than they had imagined. Gregory was in no hurry now that Vickie had finished reading the information. He sat down on a chair next to her and asked, "What do you have in mind?" Vickie turned to look at him. Her head was still so muddled that she could not feel anything, but vaguely, she felt a little uneasy. She shook her head and said, "I don't know." Gregory fell silent. His long fingers tapped the armrest of the chair periodically. After a while, he said in a deep voice, "They’re hell-bent on catching you, and according to today's situation, they don't want you dead yet. They want to capture you alive. What do you have that they covet?" Vickie was dazed. Neither of them spoke for a while as they fell in deep thought. Just then, they heard someone shouting from outside. Both of them were stunned. However, after Vickie listened in to a few sentences, her face changed drastically. Her face, which was already quite pale, suddenly turned as white as paper. "Jennie, my poor daughter! You died so miserably! I blame that godd*mned heartless sister of yours. Don't worry! I’ll avenge your death, Jennie!" It was Bryan Taylor's voice! Gregory knew that this matter could no longer be hidden from Vickie after he saw her rapidly paling face. In an extremely low voice, he said, "Jennie Taylor’s dead. I brought her body back and hired the best embalmer to fix her up. She’s now at the auxiliary building. When you're feeling better, you can go over to see her anytime." Gregory knew that if Vickie woke up and found out that Jennie had died because of her, she would definitely want to see her. Sure enough, Vickie nodded her head. Her face was pale when she muttered, "I want to go now." Gregory frowned. His eyes swept over her gauze-wrapped body and after a few seconds of silence, he did not refuse in the end. With that, he bent down and picked her up from the bed. Vickie's body stiffened as she subconsciously wanted to struggle and refuse. However, she was stopped by the man’s cold voice. "If you want to see her, behave yourself! Otherwise, in your current state, do you expect to crawl over there yourself?" Vickie stopped moving at once. After a while, her stiff body relaxed slightly too. She knew that he was right. It was impossible for her to walk over to the auxiliary building in this state. Gregory did not say another word as he carried her downstairs. As soon as they reached the bottom of the stairs, he saw that Jennie’s father, Bryan Taylor, was sitting in the hall. Bryan sat there and wiped his tears while he wailed loudly. There were no other servants in the room as they had probably received orders to avoid this area. Thus, only Mr. Osborne stood there silently, but Mr. Osborne did not comfort Bryan. Instead, he just left him be, to vent out his sorrows. When Mr. Osborne saw that Gregory and Vickie had come down, he paused slightly, feeling a little surprised. Bryan Taylor, on the other hand, caught a glimpse of Vickie, who was nestled in Gregory's arms. Then as his eyes reddened, he immediately pounced at her. "You b*tch! You killed my daughter! I’ll kill you!" However, before he could get close, he was stopped by Mr. Osborne who had stepped forward. Mr. Osborne looked at Bryan calmly and said in a deep voice, "Mr. Talyor, we’re very sympathetic for what had happened to your daughter. But the person who ran her over was not Miss Thomas. We hate those criminals just as much as you do and we’ll definitely try our best to catch these people to avenge your daughter’s death. However, all of this is based on the premise that Miss Thomas is still alive. I hope that Mr. Taylor understands this. " How could Bryan Taylor not understand this? The moment he learned of his daughter's death, his heart was pained and saddened. Though soon after, he found out that the culprit who killed his daughter was Vickie Thomas. Right after that, on his way to find Vickie, he learned of her current residence as well as the mysterious and powerful man behind her, Gregory Graham. When Bryan was young, he had also been out on the streets for a while, so he had vaguely heard of this man's name. Not only did he know how powerful Gregory was, but he also knew that he was notorious and not one to mess with. Thus, Bryan certainly knew what it meant to not go overboard. This time, he only came over to ask for money as he did not want to put himself in any real danger. Therefore, when he heard Mr. Osborne’s words, he immediately stopped in his tracks. He caught his breath and glared at Vickie with a red face. With gritted teeth, he said, "Even if my daughter wasn’t killed by her, she died because of her! You just want me to let this go?" Mr. Osborne’s gaze flickered. Not far away, Vickie’s face went completely white. As much as she hated Bryan Taylor, her love for Jennie was undeniable. She thought about the moment right before the accident, when Jennie was still describing her bright future to herself. Those grand blueprints of her dreams were still waiting to be realized. Now, in the blink of an eye, Jennie was lying in the cold room with no hint of life. Vickie only felt a dull ache in her heart, More so, she was ashamed to see Bryan, who she usually despised. Seeing the situation, Mr. Osborne said in a deep voice, "Mr. Taylor, don't worry. Since your daughter had saved Ms. Thomas’ life, we certainly won't let her die in vain. Admittedly, it was our mistake that caused Ms. Taylor's misfortune, so we won't shirk this responsibility. In two days after everything is settled, there will be a suitable compensation for Mr. Taylor." Bryan's eyes lit up a little when he heard the word “compensation”. However, his mouth still refused to stop as he coldly snorted. "You make it sound like I've come here specifically to ask for money." Mr. Osborne smiled slightly. He had seen a lot of people like Bryan Taylor, so dealing with them was naturally not a difficult task. With a smile, Mr. Osborne said, "Of course, we don’t mean that. We know very well that no amount of money can possibly make up for the loss of Ms. Taylor. But now, we really don't have any other way to make it up to you except money. Even if you don't think about the rest of your life, you’ll have to think of Ms. Taylor. If she knows that you’re not well off in the future, she won't have peace of mind when she’s down there." These words had finally gagged Bryan Taylor. He took a glance at Vickie and Gregory who were not far away, and then at Mr. Osborne. He rolled his eyes and retorted, "That's more like it."
