Chapter 797 Successful Rescue

The thug who was carrying Vickie Thomas instantly blacked out and his entire body went limp. Vickie was also thrown to the ground. After all, she was still badly injured. When she landed on the ground, she did not manage to stabilize herself, so she rolled down the stairs with a bone-crunching thud. Vickie only had time to protect her head when she smashed onto the stone steps. She felt as though her whole body had fallen apart. However, with the enemy at large, she did not dare stay for a moment longer even though it hurt tremendously. She endured the excruciating pain, got up, and ran in another direction. What she did not expect was that even though those groups of people were fighting each other, they still had an eye out for her. When they saw that she was escaping, two of them instantly kicked away the people in front of them and chased after her. At that point, Vickie had exhausted all of her energy. Even though she was amazing in the art of self-defense, she was now in a trance after she had experienced the car crash and had fallen into the river. The pain in Vickie’s chest and abdomen was an indication that she had probably suffered internal injuries, and that her resistance at that point was just pure willpower. It was unclear how long she could persist in this state. The two behind her were getting closer and closer. It was almost as if they were determined to catch her despite all the threats around them. Vickie’s heart turned cold, and she secretly took out her short dagger that was hidden at her waist. Fortunately for her, to save time, the thugs did not search her body after they kidnapped her. Thus, everything she had on her was still there. She touched the dagger and felt slightly more settled. When Vickie felt a strong wind coming from behind her, she turned around and swung her weapon at the two without much thought. However, at that moment, a sudden change occurred. Someone had beat her to it. That person rushed out of the bushes and blocked those two. The person's back was facing her, and his moves were dazzlingly fast. In just two strokes, he had already knocked down the two people in front of him. He kicked them one by one and their bodies rolled down the steep stairs. Vickie was slightly stunned by this. In the next second, when she saw the man turning to grab at her, she raised her hand and slashed at him with her dagger. She knew that no matter what, even if she died, she could not allow herself to fall into the hands of others. Nevertheless, that person was very quick and agile. Before she could even react, her wrist was already in that person's grasp. She was horrified and knew that she was not as swift as usual due to her injuries. Therefore, she tried her best to hold on and raised her leg to kick the man. The man had intercepted all her moves. The midday sun was so strong that she felt dizzy and confused. She was only barely holding on with her willpower. Vickie could not even see the face of that person. She was only mechanically resisting, and within a few moves, she had been subdued by the other party. She then slammed her head into the man with force. Just then, she suddenly heard a low, familiar voice. "Enough! Vickie, it's me!" Vickie was stunned. Her whole body stiffened. She was startled and looked up at the tall, cold man in front of her. The sunlight spilled in from the gaps between the leaves overhead and blurred her eyes, but it still allowed her to see the general outline and features of the man in front of her. "Gregory Graham?" ‘What are you doing here?’ Vickie did not get to ask the latter question though. There was only darkness in her eyes. She could no longer support herself anymore and fainted. Gregory brought her straight back to the chateau. Along with her, those who were brought back to the chateau were the thugs who had kidnapped her. There were a total of six of them, but two of them died on the mountain. The rest were brought back alive under Gregory’s orders and were now being held in the chateau with someone specially assigned to guard them. They were just waiting for Gregory to begin the interrogation when he had time. Vickie was awakened by the pain. Her entire body ached as if she had been run over by a couple of trucks, or like having her bones removed and reassembled all over again. She opened her eyes and only saw a white ceiling. There were intricate and delicate chandeliers overhead, which gently swung in front of her eyes. They were familiar yet unfamiliar at the same time. This place... Memories from before she passed out flooded into her mind, and she tilted her head slightly. Sure enough, there was the familiar figure standing there. At that time, it was already noon the next day. She had been unconscious for an entire day and night. After the doctor's examination, it was found that in addition to the bruise on her head, there were a few other injuries on her body as well as some ligament injuries on her feet. The rest of her was fine. The injuries were not critical, but they were not light either. Vickie had only moved a little but felt a sharp pain from her body and could not help but hiss softly. Gregory turned around at the sound of this. The sunlight outside was bright. Although the curtains were open, the thin layer of white gauze between the window was not pulled open. Therefore, when the sunlight shone in through the white gauze, it looked particularly warm and gentle. The light reflected on the man's body and even softened his cold and hard aura a little. The man came over and stood at the head of the bed. He looked at her and asked, "You’re awake?" Vickie nodded in response. This time when she saw him again, her mood was complicated. In any case, she never thought that after everything that had happened, she still ended up back in his hands. As if he had read her thoughts, his lips curled into a cold smirk. "Do you know the people who kidnapped you?" Vickie heard this and was at a loss. She shook her head. Gregory then threw a stack of information in front of her. "This is what I interrogated out of them last night. See for yourself." Vickie was stunned. She subconsciously raised her hand to pick up that information. There were also many scrapes and bruises on her arms, which was caused when she tried to control the car by lying on the front of it at that time. As such, both of her arms along with her palms were wrapped in thick bandages. They looked like two bear paws, which was particularly funny and amusing. With her current state, it was naturally difficult to flip through the thin papers. Therefore, although she had pulled the document over, she tried a few times yet could not turn the pages. Gregory also did not expect her to look like this and paused for a moment. In the end, he walked over with a smirk on his face, helped her to flip open the document, and laid it out in front of her. Vickie was somewhat embarrassed. However, this was not the time to be self-conscious and just read the page he had flipped open. Gregory kept an eye on her gaze. He waited for her to finish reading one page then helped her to turn to another. Just like that, with his help, Vickie finished reading all the information. Her heart was heavy. She never thought that the people she regarded as her brothers and sisters back then would not let her go even after they had betrayed her and defected to the Chinese Association. After four years, they were still scheming to kill her. Why? Vickie was dumbstruck. Logically, if they were only using her to stir conflict between the Vermilion Bird Organization and the Dragon Regimen, while they had already been bribed by the Chinese Association, they only had to wait for the issue to settle, then they would be able to accomplish their mission.
