A small smile tugged at Sloane’s lips.
Of course, how could she have forgotten the watch?
A subtle press of her thumb sent a signal. The plan now: buy time.
Her words earlier had clearly struck a nerve. Avery’s hand had lashed out without hesitation, a sharp slap that burned across Sloane’s cheek.
Sloane tilted her head slightly, unmoved.
“Oh, so now you want me to bow?” she said evenly. “By all means, let me show my respect.”
Avery’s hand rose again, but Sloane didn’t flinch.
“These are all evidence in a court of law,” Sloane said calmly. “If you strike me again, the consequences… at least three years in prison.”
Avery’s lips curved into a cold, amused smirk. Not defeated. Not scared. But she didn’t need to strike again.
“Enough talk,” Avery said. “Since you refuse to play along, we’ll settle this efficiently. Bring the documents and have her sign.”
