Chapter 123
Zoe and Noah invited their two best friends,Cora and Tristan who also happened to be ex-couple.
They needed the two of them to discuss their wedding plans as they were the chief bridesmaid and best man, respectively.
Tristan and Cora were civil at the meeting. They didn’t argue, they barely even spoke to each other.
But Noah and Zoe could see them stealing glances at each other.
It was obvious that they both wanted each other.
After the meeting,Cora left first.
Noah saw Tristan to his car.
“With how much you love Cora,I can’t believe you’re yet to get her back.”
Tristan shrugged,helplessly.”I gave up.”
“You what?”
“I know I deeply wronged her but I apologize and begged countlessly,I even crossed the line by losing control of myself.I’ve done everything I can think of,Noah.I think it’s best I respect what she wants.”
At that moment,Tristan’s s mind was in a mess, as if a lot of memorries upwelled in his mind.
Noah didn’t know what to say abhors.
Tristan waved his hand and got on the car. He stubbed out the half finished cigarette and threw it into the trash can nearby.
Looking at Tristan’s waving hand, Noah thought that Tristan was always sure to win.
But it seemed he has failed now or rather, given up.
With a sigh, Noah turned around and walked towards the villa. No matter what, his happiness was under his control, and what Noah could do was only a kind reminder.
Tristan had been thinking about what Noah had said, and what Tristan was most worried about was what Noah had mentioned. It was impossible for him not to know, but he had to take the risk now. Tristan had no choice. He had been confused before, but after thinking for a while, he had no choice but to follow this path. He knew that this was a lonely, or even forever lonely road.
Some people loved gambling all their lives, betting on their own tomorrow, and betting on their own happiness. They loved to put everything on one thing. They named gamblers. Like a gambler,Tristan didn't care about anything. He was just gambling. If he won, he would become famous; if he lost, he would lose everything.
***********
Phoebe and Alvin made an appointment to have lunch together and discuss the current situation and progress. Phoebe dressed up casually, put on light makeup and went to the appointment.
Phoebe had neither a good nor a bad impression of Alvin. They just took what they needed. Phoebe was very clear that it was just a trade, not to mention that how could Alvin be comparable to Tristan.
When Phoebe arrived at the restaurant, Tristan was not there.
A trace of disgust upwelled in her heart. How could a man be so indecisive like a woman? He arrived even later than Phoebe. Of course, Phoebe had a bad impression on him.
But even though she was not comfortable, Phoebe still smiled when she saw Alvin. It was impossible to ask for help at will.
Although she was a little unhappy, she held back her anger.
Alvin said, "I'm sorry. I'm late."
Phoebe smiled and said, "It's okay. I just arrived.”
The two walked into the restaurant side by side, like a couple. Phoebe didn't feel embarrassed, but she stood outside for too long that her face turned red by chilly wind.
Phoebe looked around like a thrush. Since she left Tristan’s villa, she felt extremely insecure.
She was afraid of meeting an acquaintance, and she was also afraid that she couldn't meet an acquaintance. All in all, loneliness and dignity tortured her at the same time.
But at this moment, there was a usual calm on Phoebe’s face. No matter what, she would not cry even if she lost. Besides, Phoebe hadn't lost yet.
Phoebe always felt that Tristan was bewitched and trying to protect Cora with sympathy. Phoebe didn't care about it at all. She could wait.
Alvin sneaked a glance at Phoebe from the corner of his eyes. He wanted to take a closer look at this woman, even if they were using each other. Her face was a little baby fat, which was different from Cora’s.
Alvin squinted slightly.
He couldn't remember how many secret meetings they had met, but they acted like they carried on a clandestine love affair. With a smile in the corner of his eyes, Alvin was amused by his sudden thought.
As a hunter, Alvin would not easily give up the prey he had got in front of him. No matter how restless the prey was, it was not up to her then.
After entering the hotel, he chose a table by the window. The weather was so cold that the pedestrians on the street all shrank their heads, and there were much fewer people.
Phoebe rubbed her hands. She had already forgotten that Alvin was late just now. Phoebe didn't care about that. What she cared about was the conversation between her and Alvin today.
"Waiter, please serve the dishes and give this lady a cup of hot water. She is too cold." Alvin squinted at Phoebe and then looked at the waiter.
"Yes, sir. You are so kind to your girlfriend. " The waiter praised.
Alvin shrugged his shoulders and said nothing. A good family education told him that he couldn't watch a lady suffer without doing anything. Besides, Phoebe was his sex toy. Even a hunter should know how to protect his prey.
Phoebe was looking forward to such a thing, but of course, she only expected Tristan do it for her. But she still said generously,
"thank you."
Tristan shrugged his shoulders. His words of good impression that had just been aroused by Phoebe. "It doesn't matter. After all, we are partners."
Phoebe shrugged her shoulders and pretended to be indifferent. "Yes, you are right."
Alvin squinted and looked out of the window. He didn't want to go out today, but Phoebe called him and told him that there was something new, so he had to go out.
"Tell me, what did Tristan say?" Alvin couldn't help frowning at the name. He once wanted to chum with him, but later he found it really didn't make sense.
"He asked me to meet up this weekend. He wanted to introduce a person to me." A happy smile appeared on Phoebe’s face, showing that she was undoubtedly favored.
Alvin curled his lips and said sourly, "What do you mean by telling me such a good thing? Are you going to resume your relation again? "
"No." Phoebe frowned. Although she was eager to make up with Tristan, she felt that this matter was not simple. It couldn't be that easy.
For the first time,Alvin felt that the woman in front of him was not as stupid as he thought. He leaned back on the chair, trying to find a comfortable angle to lean against. His slightly narrowed eyes finally returned to normal.
"Oh, tell me, what's going on?" Alvin became interested. Since he allied with Phoebe, he wanted to know what Tristan was doing.
Alvin didn't need to bother to ask someone to follow and investigate Tristan anymore. He was relieved to see the woman in front of him.
"Besides this, there is one more thing. I..I don't know if I should tell you. " There was a faint worry in Phoebe’s expression.
"HMM Tell me. Anyway, I can help you solve it. " Alvin put his hand on the table, giving people an endless sense of security. It was like Grandmother wolf and Little Red Riding Hood chatting at the table.
But Phoebe was not stupid. She had never thought of trusting Alvin with all her heart. After all, he was a green snake.
Sooner or later, Phoebe would get rid of him.
"Tristan asked me a question. He said how's the jewelry store going. I have a feeling that... " The cup in Phoebe’s hand had been cooled down, but it was still hot.
Phoebe lowered her head and took a sip of water. She was nervous and hesitant, so she didn't go on.
"Do you think he is going to take back your shop?" There was a trace of cunning in Alvin’s long and narrow eyes. Needless to say,Tristan was also ruthless.
"Yes. I have a very bad feeling. Besides, he didn't mention that the divorce news was leaked last time. It's the first time that I think Tristan is unpredictable.”Phoebe took another sip of water and seemed to be very thirsty today.
At this time, the waiters began to serve the dishes one after another. Alvin did not speak, waiting for the dishes to be served. Alvin didn't like there was someone else presence there when he was talking about business. Even after the dishes were served, Alvin was still thinking.
Phoebe must have held back something he didn't know. Of course she didn't know everything, but what she said was definitely not a lie. What did Tristan mean?
"Well, what are you going to do?" Alvin didn't show any emotions on his face. He didn't care whether he asked or tried to figure it out. It didn't matter much to him.
"I'll make a decision then. Anyway, it's not clear yet. By the way, how is your Cora? Is she close to Tristan recently?”Phoebe asked casually, but in fact, she was very nervous.
Alvin frowned and answered seriously, "There's nothing suspicious recently. I guess Tristan hasn't made any progress with her either."
No progress in Tristan side was the biggest thing. He couldn't be so calm, nor could he maintain his composure. Then what was Tristan planning? Alvin felt a chill down his spine.
If it weren't for the cold weather, Alvin would have thought he was scared.
