Chapter 445

At that moment, Wallace was like a passionate uncle. I asked once more, “Why are you here in Nanjing?” “Didn’t I just say that I missed you?” he said. I replied coldly, “We’re not close.” He laughed. “I thought we were close. At the very least, I’ve saved your life, right? I even carried you on my back in a snowstorm for several hours.” “Zachary said you planned that,” I clarified. “So, you knew the truth.” His carefree expression was annoying to look at. I turned around. “We’re not friends. You should leave now,” I demanded. Wallace did not continue the conversation and patted my head instead. I froze, then smacked his hand away, “No touching.” “It’s just a pat. I’m not harassing you.” He put on an innocent look, just like a kid. When he gave me that look, I found it difficult to be angry at him because Zachary mentioned that he had leukemia. He might die anytime, just like me. Neither of us had a healthy body. “Touching me without permission is harassment.” Hearing that, he replied obediently, “Then I’ll ask for your permission before touching you in the future.” It was too cold for me to wear a bridesmaid’s dress in December, so Yara brought me a down jacket. I took it with a smile and said, “I’m heading to Finland later. You can go back to Tong City with Lance.” “We don’t live in the same city,” Yara replied. I responded softly, “Perhaps he can drop you off along the way.” It was normal to suggest he would drop her along the way for someone you love. Yara pursed her lips for some time before asking me, “Caroline, I’m not sure what my feelings for him are. I’m very hesitant.” I asked patiently, “What are you hesitant about?” Wallace was standing right beside me. “Because my life has only just started. I’m not sure what it is that I need. Although I’ve already explored the world out there, I’m still a blank canvas when it comes to love. I’ve experienced way too little, and I don’t know what love is. If I really choose Lance, then I can only stay by his side my entire life…” Yara answered honestly. Wallace wisely asked, “You’re afraid that Lance might not be the one you love once you get together.” “Yes, I’m afraid I might not love him.” I contemplated for a moment, then bent over and said patiently to Yara, “You’re still young. It’s understandable to be concerned about these things. You’re afraid that you won’t be satisfied to just stay by Lance’s side, right? Yara, you’re better than me in understanding the world, and you understand his thoughts better than I do. You know full well that you’ve already chosen him because you wouldn’t be this hesitant if you didn’t! Since you’re already considering him, why not take a chance? Lance might turn out to be the one for you.” “Caroline, I need more time.” With that, Yara went to Loraine’s side. She had a brief exchange with Loraine and quickly left the venue. Following that, Lance also took his leave. I turned to Wallace and said, “Love is always like that. It causes so much frustration, yet brings so much joy at the same time.” “Is that so? I don’t understand,” Wallace said. “You don’t have someone you love?” I asked. “No. I’m not worthy of having a family.” Not worthy of having a family… I thought of his leukemia. I did not know how to comfort him, nor did I have a reason to comfort him. I decided to change the topic. “I’m leaving.” “To Finland?” he asked. “Yeah.” Wallace asked with a smile. “To look for your man?” I scowled at him. “What else?” “Follow me to France.”
