Chapter 428
Zachary’s mother’s way of opposition was by her death! She left the world directly and decisively without any warning.
I sighed softly, “I’m not too sure.
My melancholy clung to me, so I did not explain too much to Wale.
Wale nodded and went into the house behind the villa. I climbed onto the Chinese Parosal Tree and rested with Yara. The sadness engulfed me as I said, “This incident will be devastating to Zachary.”
What should Zachary and I do?
“I’m not too sure about it, though who can have no feelings?”
I sighed. The moon reflected in my eyes.
“Yara, let’s go to Tong City.”
“Lance invited me to go camping with his friends tomorrow. I will be heading to Wu City later,” Yara replied.
Lance had barely lived in Wu City. How many friends could he have?! I guessed that it was an excuse for him to get close to Yara.
“Alright, then I would return to Tong City first,” I said as I got down the tree.
I got my car keys and drove home. I reached my condominium at about one o’clock at midnight. I was extremely exhausted by then, but I still sent Zachary a message before I slept.
[Caroline: I’m home. Don’t worry.]
Zachary replied to me not long after.
[Zachary: Alright. Good night.]
Zachary was still awake. He was probably busy, so I did not disturb him further. I put my phone away and shut my eyes. It took me a while before I fell asleep. When I rose, it was already afternoon the next day. I took my time before heading to the Schick Corporation.
I still needed time to familiarize myself with the management of the company. I started managing hands-on quickly since I learned about the company for half a year. Moreover, Tucker was a detailed teacher. If I had any questions, he could provide me with examples.
We were busy until nighttime. Tucker gently reminded, “Master, the Schick family’s old female head just passed away last night. You should attend her funeral ceremony. You might leave a bad impression on the family members if you don’t.”
I looked at him in surprise. “How did you know that I knew about her passing?”
I never told Tucker about her passing. Besides, there was no news about Zachary’s mothers passing.
Tucker explained gently, “You just got engaged with Mr. Schick, then the old female head committed suicide. That meant she… She deliberately targeted you. It’s unlikely that you wouldn’t know about this.”
I sighed. “Help me prepare the mourning attire. The burial should follow the Schick family’s tradition. Also, contact those family relatives to attend her funeral and to send her away gracefully.”
I paused and asked, “When will the funeral be?”
“Tonight, Mr. Schick will be present at the mourning session. The burial will be tomorrow morning,” Tucker replied.
I hesitated before asking, “When should I go back to the Schick family’s old mansion?”
What if Zachary was unwilling to let me return? After all, he disallowed me to follow him back to the old mansion yesterday.
“Master, the family relatives have gradually arrived at the old mansion this afternoon. Plus, it was inappropriate for Mr. Schick to be hosting. Moreover, the Schick family’s distant relatives were raised outside. They are usually arrogant and disrespectful. In the past, Old Master wouldn’t summon them unless there was an unusually significant occasion.”
Tucker continued hesitantly, “Right now… I assume Mr. Schick would be ridiculed by them. Master, you should rush there immediately and control the overall situation. Besides, he needs you by his side right now!”
Zachary usually disdained others. He would be unbothered even if someone mocked or ridiculed him.
I was afraid he would be treated unfairly, so I immediately instructed Tucker to follow me to the old mansion.
When I arrived at the Schick family, it was very crowded. I was afraid to be recognized, so I lowered my head and rushed to the main hall. They were all the Schick family’s distant relatives, and I knew none of them!
I turned around and left, then ran towards Zachary’s residence. When I got in, I saw Zachary standing in the corridor as he stared at the water lily.
Zachary had no expression on him. I could not feel any sadness from him.
His dark gaze was like a cloud of thick black ink.
