Chapter 859
Nina glanced at Ryan and said, "If you want to reward me, do me a favor."
After doing so much, she finally got to the point, and he couldn't help chuckling. "What is it?"
She sat next to him again and massaged his shoulders. "It's been hot recently, and the peanut farm has been so dry that cracks are forming. I was wondering if you could help me irrigate the farm?"
Ryan would've forgotten about it completely if she hadn't mentioned it. It hadn't been raining much, and even the water levels in the river were dropping.
Previously, the water would get to his waist. However, it barely reached his knees at that moment. At this rate, the river would dry up soon.
Ryan frowned and looked at the sun. Then, he looked at the location of the river. If the river dried up, their crops would wither due to the lack of water. More importantly, they wouldn't have anything to drink, affecting their survival.
Seeing how Ryan kept quiet, Nina thought he wouldn't help her after everything she had done. So, she was furious. Still, she tried her best to suppress the anger and forced out a smile.
"Please help me, Ryan!" She purposely pressed hard on his shoulder until he felt pain.
"Ouch!" He screamed in pain and hurriedly said, "Of course! The peanuts aren't just yours. There's no way I wouldn't help you since it belongs to everyone."
"That's more like it!" She was extremely pleased. She didn't want to ask the other women for help. By asking Ryan, she wouldn't have to feel embarrassed. Instead, she would have a great time as well. There was no way she wouldn't be happy about it.
Ryan added, "l was just thinking about the weather lately. It doesn't look like it will rain in the next few days, and the drought will continue. We should make preparations for it."
Nina didn't think that far ahead as she only wanted to solve the water issue at the peanut farm now.
"When you get back later, just discuss it with Ms. West, Freya, and Eloise. Once the sun has set a little, help me irrigate the peanuts. Don't forget about it!"
She pinched his neck before getting on her feet. Then, her hips swayed from side to side as she walked toward the riverbank. Ryan forgot about the drought for a moment as he drooled after her.
"As expected of a model. She looks great when she walks and is second only to Camelia."
After Nina put on her clothes, she made an alluring move at him and left. He looked down and saw his member sticking out of the water's surface. He rinsed his head with some water to suppress the heat.
Then, he leaned against the riverbank and shut his eyes, thinking how he should prepare them for the drought.
Ryan and the women irrigated the sweet potato farm before they had the peanut farm and cornfield. So, if they wanted to irrigate those two as well, he would have to lead the water there from the sweet potato farm.
It had rained plenty previously, and there would be rain every few days, so they didn't need to irrigate anything at all. However, it hadn't been raining recently, and the weather was so hot that the ground cracked. They had no other choice but to irrigate the farms manually.
First, he made a path from the sweet potato farm to the peanut farm and cornfield. Then, he used a bucket to fill the path with water.
Since the water levels in the river had dropped, they could only fill the bucket a little each time. They used three hours before they irrigated all the farms, and Nina was upset because of it.
"I don't mind irrigating Ms. West's cornfield, but why do I have to do the same for Eloise's sweet potato farm as well? I'm exhausted, and I can't feel my hands anymore!"
She sat by the river and complained as she stretched her arms. Sometimes, the pain was so great that she started screaming.
The ash from Ryan's cigar fell in delicate flakes as a wave of compassion washed over him. Her incessant complaining at the campsite replayed vividly in his mind, robbing him of words.
"Remember that you're getting water from Eloise's farm. If she doesn't want to share the water source, you can do nothing about it."
