Chapter 853

Sherry clung to Ryan, her eyes wide with fear. "What in the world is that animal? My body's trembling just from that noise alone!" He looked down and shot a glance at her breasts. Then, he said with a smile, "No, it's not trembling!" She snarled, "I'm being serious! Stop messing around!" He was joking to calm her down, though he was just as scared. The noise was familiar yet terrifying, and he couldn't place it at first. "I know what it is now!" he whispered. "It's a bat!" "A… bat?" Sherry echoed, her voice trembling. She feared the bat might attack her if she got too loud. "Is it the blood-sucking kind?" Ryan wasn't sure either, but he doubted it was after blood since it was nibbling on corn. Suddenly, a dark cloud appeared in the sky, darker than the night itself, accompanied by a chorus of chirping. "Those are all bats!" Ryan's heart raced as he stared at the swarm. Sherry covered her face with her hands, her eyes wide with horror. "That's a lot of bats! There must be at least a hundred! They look so scary!" Ryan frowned. With that many bats, their corn would be completely gone. "I'm guessing only a few of them tried the corn at first. Now, they have brought all of their friends!" He was furious and scared at the same time, like an ant on a hot pan. "We need to figure out how to chase them away. Otherwise, our corn will be doomed!" Sherry timidly asked, "What can we do?" "Yeah. What can we do?" Although he was speaking to her, he was also asking himself the same question. He got on his feet and put on his shirt. Then, he started pacing around and mumbled, "What can we possibly do? Please show me a sign and tell me a solution!" Sherry felt slightly sad. She figured he cared so much about the corn because Camelia was the one who grew them. "Whenever we encountered scary animals in the past, we would always use fire to defend ourselves. Can we do the same with bats?" Ryan thought about it. Although he wasn't sure if they could get rid of the bats with fire, that was the only solution they had at the moment. "That's right. Let's make a fire now!" "There's a lot of firewood back at my place. I'll bring them over now!" Sherry left before she even finished her words. She didn't even put her clothes back on, and her breasts swung wildly as she ran. Meanwhile, Ryan gathered some materials on the spot and found some dried grass and fallen branches. He put them together and lit them up. After Sherry returned with the firewood, they fed the fire until it burned brightly. However, the bats in the cornfield weren't bothered by it at all! "We're not going to scare them away at this rate!" He clenched his fists tightly, and at that point, he would rather fight the bats himself. However, if he tried to chase them away with a stick, he was worried about getting bitten. Anyone would know how many diseases a bat could carry. If he were infected without any medical supplies near them, he would most likely die. He might also pass the disease to them. However, if they let the fire burn in the cornfield, it would affect the corn's growth, and they would be making things worse instead. Feeling anxious and helpless, Ryan grabbed a torch and charged into the cornfield while shouting. "You damn bats! Stop destroying my dear Amy's corn! Get out of here now, or I'll burn you all to death!" He waved the torch around and hit any bat he saw. The bats were terrified of the torch he was carrying, and they didn't dare to get close to him at all. Instead, they just circled above the cornfield. As they flew, they chirped nonstop. It felt as if they were mocking Ryan for not being able to do anything about them. Sherry wasn't scared anymore, either. She picked up a torch and charged into the cornfield, swinging it around. Although the bats weren't hurt, they couldn't land and enjoy the corn. In the end, they had no choice but to fly away. Ryan dropped to the ground and tried to catch his breath. He couldn't feel his arms anymore as they were numb at that moment. After catching his breath, he looked up and saw Sherry, who stood with her breasts hanging and legs spread, looking anything but ladylike.
