Chapter 829
Camelia snapped, "Nina, can you keep quiet for two seconds?"
Nina couldn't bring herself to disobey Camelia. Even though she didn't like Eloise's explanation, she chose to stay silent.
Worried, Freya asked, "Will the fire reach us?"
Ryan was worried about that too, but he was more concerned about the fire from the meteorite killing all the animals. If that happened, they wouldn't know where to find food next.
They had a fish pond, corn, sweet potatoes, and peanuts, but that wouldn't be enough for a comfortable life.
Suddenly, Sherry clapped her hands and looked excited. "Ryan, if it's really a meteorite, do you think diamonds might be in it? Why don't we take a look? Maybe we can really find some diamonds. Then, we'll be rich!"
Nina gave her a side glance and couldn't help saying, "What's the point of having diamonds? We don't even know if we can leave the island! If we'll be here forever, what can we possibly get with the diamonds? We can't even get a piece of meat with it!"
Sherry was furious, and she puffed up her chest so much that her pelt bra almost burst open. Her cleavage suddenly became deeper as well. Just as she thought about refuting Nina, Ryan seriously said, "That's not true! If we do find diamonds, it'll still be useful to us."
Nina scoffed. "How is it going to be useful?"
"We all know how diamonds are the hardest natural material known to mankind," Eloise answered for Ryan and also helped Sherry talk back to Nina.
"They are way harder than stones and metal. If we can find some of them, we can turn them into various tools. Then, it'll be easier for us to gather various materials on the island! I can even use them to make arrows for the crossbow. That way, we can even shoot through crocodile skin!"
She spoke so professionally that Nina couldn't talk back at all.
Meanwhile, Sherry was over the moon and couldn't help smirking. Although she had previously had an issue with Eloise, she felt like she was on her side at that moment.
Ryan wasn't familiar with a diamond's characteristics, but he had previously heard about diamond drill bits. It was said that they could cut through anything. If they could get their hands on some diamond tools, any task would be easier from then on.
"The fire is still burning, so we can't examine the situation inside. So, let's talk about it again tomorrow!"
Since the fire brought poisonous gas and dust, Ryan and the women had no choice but to hide in the cave.
He was really worried that a meteorite landing could potentially bring irreversible changes to the ecosystem. If that were the case, they would have to move again. However, they didn't know if there was another spot on the island that could be as good a shelter as the cave in the mountain, complete with a water source and land for farming.
They had already planted corn, sweet potatoes, and peanuts. No one could leave everything behind if they had to do it.
Fortunately, it started raining after the jungle burned for two days, putting out the fire and dispersing the thick smoke and dust. Otherwise, even if the fire hadn't reached them, they still would've gotten respiratory diseases from breathing in all the dust.
After they were stranded on the deserted island, Ryan greatly hated the rain. They would have to worry about their fire and food whenever it rained. However, it was the first time he felt glad when he saw it was raining.
It rained for one day, and the sun was out the next day. Ryan couldn't wait to see the crash site. Sherry and Eloise wanted to check it out as well. He thought about how wild the fire was and how there wouldn't be any animals near them that could hurt them anymore, so he agreed to let them follow him.
The crash site was a bit far from their camp, so Ryan decided to use their only transportation—the horse. Sherry and Eloise rode on the horse while he led it on the ground. Although the horse was short and small, it could still carry two women. It didn't look tired at all.
After walking for more than a mile, they were surrounded by burned trees. It was a devastating sight. With the trees burned like that, the animals had nowhere to look for food, which was why Ryan couldn't even spot a single animal.
He sighed worriedly, "We'll have to survive on our fish and crops for a while."
Suddenly, Sherry got excited as she pointed in a direction. She yelled happily, "Look! Something is shining over there!"
