Three days passed.
Three days of waiting, of watching the sky for returning falcons, of pacing halls that once felt like home but now echoed like tombs. The sentries doubled, the war council met twice daily, and still, the fear beneath our calm sharpened with each hour of silence.
The messages had gone out. But would they be answered?
On the fourth dawn, a cry rang from the northern tower. I raced up the stone steps just in time to see it: a dark shape cutting through the clouds, wings stretched wide. A falcon. Not ours.
"From the Glacian Court," the watchman said, lowering the bird gently from the sky. Its talon carried a scroll sealed in silver wax.
Kaelos and Callista joined me moments later as I cracked the seal.
