The sky above the Star Shrine now looked strange. A thin purple mist hung like an illusory curtain, and the stars that usually shone brightly at night seemed dim, as if holding their breath. Around me, the sacred stones glowed softly, but the air was filled with tension.
Kaelos stood beside me, his cloak fluttering in the growing cold night wind. Behind us, Callista and Esra prepared their magical weapons, while Ruvan planted his wooden moon staff into the ground, creating a protective circle around us all.
“Something has changed,” I whispered. “This place isn’t the same as before.”
“Because it’s not just the weather,” Kaelos replied, his voice flat but tense. “The energy here… is being absorbed. Manipulated.”
I touched the ground beneath my feet, trying to feel the pulse of the natural magic. Once, this place felt warm and alive, like my mother’s soothing embrace when I was a child. But now? Cold. Silent. And distant.
