Finally, he reached her gravesite. A small black-and-white photo was etched into the stone, capturing her young, radiant face in a smile that had always captivated him, and his breath caught as he looked into her eyes once more.
Beneath the photo, a simple inscription read, "In Loving Memory of Giselle Kane." To the right, smaller letters recorded her birth and death dates, along with the words "Beloved Husband, Donovan Kane."
It seemed the Kanes had finally acknowledged Giselle. Even though Donovan had not taken part in the arrangements, the gravestone had been inscribed in his name.
He stood there for a long moment, lost in thought, before kneeling in front of the grave. Carefully, he set the cake and bouquet of roses at its base. He had wanted to say something meaningful, something worthy of her memory, but in the end, only the simplest words came out. "Happy birthday, my love."
He couldn't help but reach out and touch the cold surface of the gravestone. His fingers lingered on
