He was desperate, but visas and tickets aren't something you can arrange on a whim.
By the time he set foot on Norwegian soil and tracked me down through the embassy and local police, three days had already passed.
Emmanuel knocked on the apartment door, shouting “Erin” as he rushed inside, only to be stopped by the landlord, who was tidying up the room. She asked suspiciously, “Who are you?”
“I’m looking for Erin.” He realized she used her English name here and quickly explained again, “She’s my wife. We had a misunderstanding, so I want to talk it out with her.”
The landlord waved him off immediately, “There's no one here you're looking for.”
“Her name is Erin, her English name is Fiona.”
The landlord still said, “My tenant is named Harriet, not the person you're talking about. You've got the wrong person.”
Harriet?
Emmanuel was confused.
“Are you sure you're not mistaken?”
The landlord was a bit annoyed: “If you don't believe me, then forget it.”
