ELORA'S POV
The moment I stepped into my apartment, the silence wrapped and clung to me like a second skin. Dinner with them had drained me more than I care to admit. Driving to Oliver's mansion, then to the restaurant, the long conversations, and driving back…that took lots of energy. So slipping out of my shoes and tossing my purse onto the couch felt like a relief. I barely had the chance to breathe when my phone buzzed on the coffee table.
Lucas.
I couldn't help but smile faintly as I swiped to answer. “If I didn't know better, Mr Banner, I'd say you're stalking me.” I teased, letting my voice drip with light sarcasm. “How did you know to call at the right time?”
There was a short pause on the line, that familiar hesitation of his when he wanted to say something serious. “Tell me, Elora,” Lucas finally said, “Why did the professor ask you to come pick him up? You promise to tell me.”
I sighed and leaned against the arm of the couch. “Oliver Introduced me to Ray and Ian. That's all.
