Chapter 715
Third person's POV
Forrest's voice was laced with worry, "Ms. Hartley, where are you now?"
Tabitha had already settled her wages with Forrest before sending the children to the island. She couldn't fathom why he would contact her at this juncture.
She couldn't help but feel puzzled.
Tabitha inquired, "What's wrong?"
Forrest replied, "Wilmot's had an accident. You need to come see him."
Tabitha was still trying to make sense of Derek's appearance at the bar when she heard about Wilmot's predicament, and her heart immediately filled with worry.
She quickly asked, "What happened to him?"
Forrest explained, "Wilmot was already ill recently, and he drank a lot tonight. He's suffered from alcohol poisoning and has been taken to the hospital. He keeps asking to see you, Ms. Hartley. Where are you? Can you come to see him?"
Tabitha thought to herself that even if she knew her current location, she couldn't just tell anyone.
She said, "It's not convenient. How is he now?"
Forrest stated, "He's in acute, severe alcohol poisoning, which triggered upper gastrointestinal bleeding. He's vomiting a lot of blood and is currently in emergency treatment. I'm worried... if he doesn't make it, he won't have seen you one last time."
Tabitha couldn't help but feel a sense of sorrow. How could Wilmot have let himself get into such a state?
Forrest continued, "Ms. Hartley, Wilmot has always had feelings for you. To not burden you, he kept this love hidden in his heart. If he doesn't see you, it will be a lifelong regret for him."
Tabitha was torn internally, unsure who had sent the group after her, and her own life was in danger.
She said, "Forrest, I can't come for now. I'm sorry."
After that, she hung up the phone.
She thought to herself that she was already in danger and couldn't involve the children.
Lucian watched Tabitha's phone warily and asked, "Who was that?"
Tabitha replied, "A friend. He's not a bad person, and he's no threat to us."
Lucian said, "I don't trust anyone but you. Our situation is not safe right now. I'm taking a risk by approaching you."
Tabitha was full of doubts and asked, "How did you know I was still alive?"
Lucian slowly said, "I saw your name on the hit list on the dark web. Someone has put a price on your head."
He narrated the events, "Now that it's come to this, I'm not afraid to tell you that I was once a member of Black Wolf Guild. I wanted to warn you of the danger in my own way, but Black Wolf still planned that assassination. When I arrived, I found the two children. They were just choked by amniotic fluid, so I took them away, intending to find a chance to tell you."
"Later, Black Wolf suffered heavy losses, and I was labeled a traitor and put on a kill order. I had to flee with the two children."
Tabitha asked, "Do you know who put the hit on me back then?"
Lucian shook his head and said, "Such confidential matters are only known by those in power. Even though I inquired discreetly, I only found one of the person's intermediaries and couldn't find out who it was exactly."
"Black Wolf Guild removed your name due to significant losses and no longer accepted contracts related to you. Last night, I suddenly found that your bounty post had been taken, and it took me a lot of time to find out who it was before rushing over. Fortunately, I managed to save you."
On the other side, after hanging up the phone, Alvin's fingers moved away from the keyboard.
Alvin said, "Alpha Derek, I found it. Tabitha's location is in a forest on the outskirts of the west. Her voice doesn't sound like she's in immediate danger. Should we go there?"
Forrest had the call on speaker, so Derek heard Tabitha's voice when she answered the phone. Her voice sounded natural and alert, and she was even reluctant to reveal her location to Forrest.
Derek thought, "She went to the outskirts in such a short time. Obviously, someone took her there. She didn't call for help on the phone, which means this person is not a threat to her and even helped her kill those assassins."
Rolf looked puzzled and said, "Judging from the wounds of those men, they were all killed with a single shot, taking on three at once. This person must have excellent shooting skills. When did Tabitha get to know someone so formidable?"
Derek pondered for a moment and said, "Accurate shooting, killing efficiently, and no threat to Tabitha—only one person fits that description."
Derek's mind conjured up the person he had met on the boat not long ago, and he blurted out, "It's Lucian."
Derek thought that Tabitha had returned to Seattle to meet with Lucian, and after so many days, it must have been her secret signals that matched with Lucian's.
Rolf asked, "Tabitha should be safe with Lucian, so what do we do now? Should we bring Tabitha back? After all, she's with another man..."
Derek frowned and said, "If we go now, it would expose my identity."
