Chapter 297

Tabitha's POV Just then, the call ended abruptly, and I was out of options. I knew Derek, just like he knew me. During this period, I always thought that I was deceiving him in every possible way. Looking back now, I found that he was actually the one pulling the strings on me. I guessed by now, Alpha Leopold had already informed Derek, so I must escape. Right when I was stressing, Joanna came in looking for me. "Tabitha, what took you so long? The doctors have been waiting." "I'm not doing it. Let's go. We must leave immediately." "Why? Aren't there other tests to do?" I held her hand and pulled her out of the door. "I can't explain it right now, but in short, we can't stay here. It's way too dangerous." Joanna was confused. "The pack guards are here. Where is the danger? I will call Alpha Derek right now and let him handle it." "Fool, he's the biggest danger." I pulled Joanna and ran towards the outside. She insisted, "No, you are not even three months along. You can't engage in intense exercise. Come on, get on my back." Even though she didn't get what I was on about, she crouched down without a second thought so I could hop on. "Don't worry. I'm very strong. My mom even jokes that I have the strength of a male Alpha. So just let me carry you," Joanna said as she hoisted me onto her back. Despite her slender figure, her strength was truly impressive. "By the way, Tabitha, where are we going?" "Anywhere but here." "Alright, let's roll." My mind flashed back to times when Derek wouldn't believe a word I said. He'd just keep throwing sharp words my way, jabbing at me. To do DNA identification, we had to wait until I was four to five months pregnant to do amniocentesis. I was afraid that Derek wouldn't listen to any of my explanations at all and insisted on forcing me to have an abortion. At that moment, my wolf said in my mind, "Tabitha, what should we do? Derek won't let us off easily." I responded, "Don't worry. We will definitely find a way out. If all else fails, we can just shift and bail." Crystal exclaimed urgently, "No, Tabitha, you can't shift now. You are pregnant. It's too dangerous." Frustration bubbled inside me, but I knew I couldn't take any chances now. Joanna ran with me on her back while I was lost in thoughts about where to hide. But before we even made it out the back door, I spotted a tall figure. Derek was standing by a tree in a tailored suit, leaning casually against it with a cigarette pinched between his fingers. His face was blurred by the smoke. His emotionless gaze slowly shifted to me, his eyes flashing with a hint of disappointment. Anxiety swept through my heart, and I knew I was toast. To him, I probably looked like I was running away in fear of punishment, and he would be even less likely to believe my explanation. He sighed, "Tabitha, you have disappointed me so much." Joanna set me down, trying to back me up. "Alpha Derek, it's not what you think. Ms. Hartley smelt danger, so she asked me to take her away. Please get into the hospital and see if someone wants to hurt her." Derek threw his cigarette away and ignored Joanna, his gaze falling on me. "Tabitha, are you coming to me, or should I come to you?" Joanna muttered, complaining, "Does it make a difference?" I stood frozen in place. Joanna had no clue what I was scared of. Little did she know, the calmer Derek seemed, the crazier he truly was. Just like now, his eyes which seemed to have no threat in them were churning with storms. I took the initiative and said, "Derek, I can explain." Derek stepped closer, a cold glint sparking in his eyes. "Tabitha, it's too late."
