Sarah's POV
"Alpha Nate!" I couldn't stop the tears streaming down my face, even as Nate tried to appear nonchalant about nearly being killed.
His casual demeanor only made my heart ache more intensely, my tears flowing freely down my cheeks, glistening under the harsh parking lot lights.
This was so typical of him—no matter what terrible thing happened, he always tried his hardest to make me laugh, to shield me from worry and pain.
Even when the person who had just tried to run him down was Alexander, even when we both knew it was deliberate, he still put on a brave face.
"Alpha Nate, you fool," I whispered, my voice catching.
"Why do you have to be so stupid?" I asked, reaching out to touch his face gently.
Stupid enough not to utter a single word of blame, but instead try to comfort me when he was the one who nearly died.
My heart squeezed painfully as I examined him for injuries. "Are you feeling any discomfort? Does anything hurt? Please, let me take you to the hospital, okay?"
