Alysia's POV
I should have known peace was simply a mirage, or something that wouldn't last pretty long, especially after the last attack that almost killed Damon. I was this close to thinking I'd lost him that day. In fact, a small part of me couldn't help but think that if I hadn't arrived the moment I did, then he probably would have died. I was so scared seeing him on the battleground wounded. I wasn't sure I'd seen so just blood come from him all at once. Sometimes I saw my excessive training as useless and probably not necessary, but not anymore. Since it was what had saved Damon, then I was eternally grateful to the moon goddess for that gift.
I had prayed that the pack would at least experience some peace. Even if it didn't last too long, but long enough for him to fully recover. A couple of days had passed, and when nothing suspicious or serious had happened, I found myself relaxing a bit. But apparently, that had to be the worst decision I'd made.
