Charlie frowned, his eyes filled with disapproval.
"If she didn't go to you, who else would she turn to? With her personality, she doesn't have any friends in Swinford. She's always been nothing but trouble. Look at the mess she made this time!"
Lilian chimed in with equally harsh words. Her tone was sharp and dripping with disdain, so much so that anyone who heard might mistake Norah for her enemy rather than her daughter.
"She's always been timid and useless. She can't do anything other than snatch Isa's things. Sheldon, I know you're soft-hearted, but there's no need to cover for her in this situation."
