Chapter 2
After the call ended, Cecily calculated how long it would take to settle her affairs in Jorleton, then booked a flight back to Harlport for two weeks later.
Right after purchasing the ticket, the nurse approached to inform her about the follow-up tests.
Cecily sat in the wheelchair. As she passed through the doorway and glanced up, she saw a face that looked far too familiar. She had just seen it in the photo album.
Clyde!
The second he noticed her, the coldness in his expression deepened, turning even more piercing in an instant.
"How did you know I was here? Did you actually follow me to the hospital?"
Cecily had never imagined that her first time seeing him after losing her memory would happen like this. To make matters worse, he clearly disliked her.
She froze for a few seconds before snapping out of it. "You've got it all wrong. I wasn't following you. I was in a car accident on the highway, so I've been here recovering."
Clyde frowned as he studied her briefly. He was about to speak when someone unexpectedly stepped out of the hospital room.
He quickly stepped forward. "Isabel, your fever just went down. I told you to rest. What are you doing out here?"
Hearing the name, Cecily turned instinctively and saw Isabel, wearing a flowing white dress with hair that fell to her waist.
When their eyes met, Isabel gave a small smile before looking questioningly at Clyde. "The room was too stuffy, so I came out to get some air. Cly, who is this?"
Clyde's expression darkened slightly. "This is Evelyn's best friend, Cecily Sweeney. She's a designer from Steiner Group's design department. We don't really know each other."
Isabel gave a faint smile at those words, her expression warm as she spoke. "Nice to meet you, Ms. Sweeney. I'm Isabel Jacoby. That's quite a bandage on your head. Were you in an accident?"
Cecily nodded. "Yes, I was in a car accident. I have a mild concussion and some memory lo—"
She was interrupted mid-sentence when a nurse called from behind, "Cecily Sweeney of Bed 1124? It's time for your tests."
Those words made Cecily lose interest in pleasantries with someone she scarcely knew anymore. She gave a quick, courteous goodbye to the two people before her and promptly wheeled off for her medical tests.
Clyde, meanwhile, knitted his brows at her strangely distant manner. Her behavior was such a stark contrast to her usual self that he instinctively looked her way again.
Hadn't she always been the one to pester him relentlessly whenever they crossed paths? But now, she simply walked away without a backward glance.
After completing several routine tests, Cecily stopped by the pharmacy to pick up her prescription.
As she passed by the garden downstairs, she noticed the pleasant weather and decided to enjoy some sunshine. She wheeled around by herself.
When Cecily reached the pond, Isabel approached her and called out, "Ms. Sweeney? You're out for some fresh air, too. What a coincidence."
Cecily was also surprised to run into her again and exchanged polite remarks.
Isabel was very friendly. Before long, she offered to push Cecily's wheelchair, keeping up a cheerful conversation as they went.
"Cly's tied up on a phone call right now. I'm feeling bored by myself. Why don't we chat? You're Evelyn's friend, and you've worked with Cly for years, so I wanted to ask you something.
"When I was overseas, I heard a woman chased after Cly for seven years relentlessly. Do you know who she was? And how did Cly feel about her?"
Cecily went still at those words but quickly composed herself. She said evenly, "I have no idea. But if he was pursued for seven years and still only cared about you, then it's obvious you're the most important person to him. No one else even comes close."
