Chapter 1300
Abigail picked up her phone calmly and found news about Xander. She read it out loud, "Xander got sick and passed away? Was Xander in a car accident?"
Johann gently said, "If you're sad, you can talk to me. No need to hide your feelings."
Abigail smiled and asked, "Why should I be sad?"
Johann was at a loss for words. He understood that Abigail still had thoughts about Xander. She was too strong-willed to admit she cared about someone who had hurt her. She pretended it did not affect her at all.
Abigail surprised Johann with her response. "If Xander had really passed away, it would be a secret. But since news of his death is all over, it's likely not true."
Johann, looking puzzled, asked, "Why do you think it's not true?"
Abigail, with a thoughtful look, replied, "Knowing Xander as I do, that's my feeling."
Deep down, Abigail was unsure. When she first heard that Xander had passed away, she could not believe it. At lunch, she took time to think hard about whether Xander could really be gone. Xander had some old injuries and was not always healthy, but Kane was making him better. She did not think those injuries were serious enough to take his life. The rumors about an accident also did not seem right to her. 'It just doesn't make sense,' Abigail thought.
Johann said, "Maybe you should call Xander's grandma, Margaret, to check what's happening?"
"Alright," Abigail said, pulling up Margaret's number. She looked at the screen, feeling a bit scared to make the call. The thought of possibly bad news frightened her. But she reminded herself that not knowing would not help. Taking a big breath, she pressed the call button to reach Margaret.
As soon as the call connected, Abigail heard joyful laughter. Margaret was talking happily, "Lucia, how fantastic! The Zane family is getting bigger. You're amazing, having Xander's baby already. That's different from your sister Abigail, who never had a child with Xander."
Lucia said, "Grandma, the doctor told me the baby is taking shape."
Margaret excitedly asked, "Is that so? Do you know if it's a boy or a girl?"
"I chose not to ask," Lucia said. "Xander said whether it's a boy or girl, he'll be happy as long as the baby is ours."
Overhearing this, a silent Abigail ended the call.
